Kevin Doyle Moves to Wolves

By: Kevin | June 30th, 2009 | 2 Comments »

Republic of Ireland and now former Reading striker Kevin Doyle has been linked with a handful of Premier League clubs ever since Reading lost in the Coca-Cola Championship playoffs, but it was Wolves who won out for the signature of the widely proclaimed all-rounder for a club record fee of £6.5m.

Kevin Doyle is unveiled at Molineux

In my personal opinion, this move is one that not only increases Wolves’ chances of staying up dramatically, but a move that will do wonders for the Republic of Ireland squad. Doyle will be joining an already large cast of Irish players at Wolves and will have the opportunity to create an entirely new level of good chemistry with them. Ireland hopefuls, but by no means locks, Stephen Ward, Kevin Foley, Stephen Gleeson, Darren Potter, and Andrew Keogh are all members of the team, with Ward, Foley, and Keogh most likely to see extensive time for the club.

Quite simply, more Irish players playing in the Premiership and more Irish players on club teams together will both lead to a better Irish side. These guys playing in the Premiership only increases our chances of a good result against Italy at Croke Park on October 10th.

Ireland vs. Bulgaria preview and live blog

By: Kevin | June 6th, 2009 | No Comments »

Let’s be totally honest. Ireland had a poor showing against Nigeria. Pat Dolan and all of those other muppets on Setanta were either being overly nice because they think it’s what the public wants, or they’re just muppets of the highest order. Nigeria’s C team played us off the park, and Robbie Keane, Shay Given, and Richard ... [read]

Preview: Ireland vs. Nigeria

By: Kevin | May 29th, 2009 | 2 Comments »

The Republic of Ireland could walk into Friday’s friendly match against Nigeria with the mindset that it’s just a little run out. It is called a friendly for a reason, after all. However, Nigeria are one of world football’s perennial under-achievers and sleeping giants; a team full of the kind of physical talents that the fans and FA ... [read]

Reports coming from everywhere online suggest that Ireland’s winger Aiden McGeady, who plays in Scotland with Celtic, is being tracked by Bayern Munich’s scouts. Ireland’s Italian manager Giovanni Trapattoni coached Bayern manager Jurgen Klinsmann at both Inter and Bayern in the past and has confirmed the rumours that the Bavarians are looking ... [read]

Ireland Ramblings – It’s All Happening

Not really. There really isn’t much going on after the mind-boggling fun of Paddy’s Day…But I have seen a few things that are of minor interest, and at least give me an excuse to post something.
Firstly, our lovely Italian manager Giovanni Trapattoni turned 70 on St. Patrick’s Day. Quite fitting that our manager’s birthday is on our national day. ... [read]

George Hamilton

Next up in this wildly popular mini series is George Hamilton. For those that don’t know George he is the main commentator on RTE’s soccer coverage, both international and Champions League, and is also the undisputed king of the metaphor. They actually call him in Spain La Metáfora Matador, I don’t ... [read]
